Former mayor of Patharghata municipality arrested

District Detective Police (DB) arrested Anwar Hossain Akon (78), former four-time mayor of Barguna's Patharghata municipality and vice-president of banned upazila Awami League.

On Sunday (May 24) around 2 o'clock in the morning, the DB Police arrested him from his house in Chowrasta area of ​​Patharghata town and brought him to Barguna. He has been arrested in the case of arson in Barguna district BNP office. He was then handed over to Barguna police station.

Barguna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Alim said that former mayor Anwar Hossain Akon is currently in police custody at Barguna Police Station. He will be sent to court after the legal process.

He also said that Anwar Hossain Akon was in hiding since August 5. There are three cases pending against him in Patharghata Judicial Magistrate Court for misappropriation of contract work of Patharghata Municipality, which are under investigation by various investigative agencies. Two contractors filed cases against him.
