About 6 feet long venomous Padma Gokhra snake was recovered from the crop land of Sherpur Upazila.
A venomous lotus snake about 6 feet long was recovered from a crop field in Sherpur upazila of Bogra. Later, the voluntary organization 'Environmental Defense Organization' saved the snake from being beaten and released it in a safe and secluded area.
The snake was recovered at Khikanda Purvapara village of Kusumbi Union of the upazila at around 12 noon on Monday (May 25).
According to local sources, on Sunday (May 24) night, Mujibur Rahman, son of the deceased Ghiyas Mandal of Khikanda (Sikinda) Purvapara village, kept a Chinese double net in his cropland for fishing. At around 3 am he went to collect the fish caught in the net and saw the Padma Gokhra snake. He retrieved the net with the snake and brought it home. Later, the owner of the net, Majnu Mia, did not kill the snake and told the general secretary of Sherpur Press Club, Shah Jamal Kamal.
On receiving the information, the rescue worker of 'Snake Rescue Team Bangladesh' Mohammad James rescued the venomous snake unharmed and later released it in a secluded and safe forest area away from the locality.
Rescue worker Mohammad James said, “I have rescued the snake and released it in a safe forest, so that it can survive in the bosom of nature.”
