Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the occupation of more territories in Lebanon. Reuters reported this information with reference to the Israeli Prime Minister on Sunday.
Netanyahu said he had 'instructed the Israeli military to expand operations in Lebanon'.
He said, “Now my order is to deepen and expand our control in the areas controlled by Hezbollah.”
Netanyahu issued the order as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) captured the strategically important and historic Fort of Beaufort in southern Lebanon. They took control of this historical structure after crossing the Litani river in southern Lebanon for the first time since 2006.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz in a telegram called the capture of Fort Beaufort a major 'strategic' victory. He said that the operation was conducted under the leadership of the Golani Brigade under the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and under his own supervision.
“The capture of Beaufort (fortress) is a dramatic step and a dramatic change in policy under our leadership,” Netanyahu said, according to Israeli broadcaster Kan.
“We are taking initiatives, we are working on all fronts – in Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, we have established security zones beyond the borders to protect our communities,” he said.
