Open to talks, but don't trust US: Iran's deputy speaker

Although there is no confidence in any commitment of the United States, the country has kept the way of discussion open if necessary, said Mojtaba Nikjad, the deputy speaker of the Iranian parliament.

He made these comments in an interview given to the Iranian news agency Tasnim News on Wednesday (June 3). Al-Jazeera news.

This leader of the Iranian parliament said, “We only fight, we do not negotiate – it is not correct to say that.”

Nikjad rejected foreign media claims about Iran's wartime crisis. He said that even at the height of the conflict, 7 million people were displaced, many of whom went to the northern part of the country. But due to the good management of the government, no one had to face any problem with basic goods, bread or shelter.

“The 'red line' set by the Supreme Leader (Mojtaba Khamenei) is on our agenda. We will discuss if necessary, but we do not believe any promises from the Americans. They have committed very brutal crimes against us,” Nikjad said, according to Tasnim's report.

He cited two incidents as evidence of US aggression. One of them was the killing of two Iranian nuclear scientists in a tower by a missile attack and the other was the horrific attack on the 'Shazareh Tayyebah' primary school in Minaber, Hormuzgan province in February this year. Iranian officials claim that more than 170 students and teachers were killed in the attack.

“There is no disagreement among Iranian officials about not bowing an inch to the enemy,” Iran's judiciary chief said in a separate statement, Tasnim reported.
