Renowned folk musician Kamruddin Absar is no more

Renowned folk musician, lyricist and music teacher Kamruddin Absar is no more (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the capital's BISH Hospital at around 9:30 pm on Saturday.

According to family sources, Kamruddin Absar was ill for a long time. He suffered a stroke in 2011. After that he took treatment at home for a long time. He was admitted to the hospital on May 14 when his physical condition deteriorated recently. He was under treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after suffering from pneumonia and influenza.

His body will be taken to the central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Monday morning to pay his respects. There will be an opportunity for public to pay their respects from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Later, his funeral will be held at Bad Johar Dhaka University Central Mosque.

Kamruddin Absa is survived by wife Kavi Ferdousi Begum and only child Adnan Mukit.

Apart from composing, composing and performing mass music, he also composed numerous children's rhymes. The death of Kamruddin Absar cast a shadow of mourning on the cultural and political arena of the country. Remembering him on social media, economist and teacher Anu Muhammad wrote, “He saw Kamruddin Absar from the late seventies of the last century and organized together in the eighties and nineties.” He has stood by the side of people's freedom struggle for a lifetime. How many people have been inspired by his music, how many movements he has given strength to, cannot be counted. He is the music teacher of many teenagers. He was the master of many contemporary artists. Much love, and deep respect for Kamruddin Absar.”
