Beating the volunteer party leader inside the police station, 3 police closed


A few policemen including the OC have been accused of beating a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Volunteers Party inside the Kotwali police station of Rangpur city.

Three policemen have been locked up in the police lines in this incident which took place on Wednesday (June 3) at around 10 o'clock. Besides, the Rangpur Metropolitan Police has formed a three-member investigation committee.

Rakibul Islam Rakib Rangpur Sadar Upazila Volunteers Party Member Secretary He alleged that some policemen led by OC Azad Rahman physically tortured him when he went to the police station to settle a family dispute.

The closed policemen are – woman constable Lima Saren, duty officer Meherunnessa and sub-inspector Masood Rana.

According to the relevant sources, a general diary (GD) was filed at the police station by the family after a couple went missing from CO Bazar area of ​​Rangpur city. Later, when the couple was rescued and brought to the police station, some volunteer team leaders went to the police station to settle the matter at the request of their family. There was an allegation that the incident took place due to an altercation with the police.

Rakibul Islam claimed that a policeman was beating the couple inside the police station. When he objected to the matter, the OC and some policemen attacked him and raised their hands on him. He was injured.

Meanwhile, when the incident became known, the leaders and activists of BNP and allied organizations gathered in front of the police station. Later the injured Rakib was sent to the hospital.

Azad Rahman, OC of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station, denied the allegations. He claimed that the police intervened to control the conflict between the two families of the rescued couple. He gave a different explanation for the injury on the injured leader's body.

After the incident, Rangpur Metropolitan Police has ordered to close police lines to woman constable Lima Saren, duty officer Meherunnessa and sub-inspector Masud Rana. Besides, a three-member investigation committee headed by Naresh Chakma, Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration and Finance) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police has been constituted. Rangpur Metropolitan Police said that necessary legal and departmental action will be taken after the investigation.
