The casualty occurred when the trailer caught fire after colliding with it.
The incident took place around 2.30 am on Tuesday, when the bus was speeding from Rishikesh towards Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The vehicle first collided with a trailer (a large truck) and then both vehicles caught fire.
Eyewitnesses said most of the dead passengers were asleep at the time of the accident.
Meanwhile, fire tenders are said to be engaged in dousing the fire and rescuing people.
Most of the injured are women and children. They have been admitted to Dausa District Hospital for treatment.
While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be known, police suspect that the bus driver may have fallen asleep. High speed of the bus is also being considered as a possible factor.
