We don't want to see budget on paper: Hasnat

Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) Chief Organizer (South) and Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah said, “We don't want to see a budget based on numbers or on paper, where the real benefits do not reach the people. We are in favor of such a budget where the benefit of every penny of the budget reaches the common man.”

He said this at the 'Shadow Budget 2026-27' announcement ceremony at the office of NCP's youth organization Jatiya Yubo Shakti at Banglamotor in the capital on Friday (June 5) afternoon.

At that time, he said, “We want to establish a non-discriminatory and egalitarian economy. We want to strengthen the relationship of trust between the state and the people. We are committed to protecting the interests of consumers as well as the interests of producers.”

Hasnat Abdullah said, “Our budget session will start from June 7. The current government has inherited a crisis economy. The amount of defaulted loans in the economy left by Awami League is more than 30 percent. The economy of Bangladesh is still dependent on energy imports. More than 12 billion dollars are spent on energy imports every year. Besides, the economy has to bear the burden of abusive capacity charges. The economy that the current government inherited is mainly dependent on looting and capacity.” A charge-based economy.”

This NCP member of parliament said, “Our main aim is to increase employment, increase allocation to the education sector and reform the banking sector. In the last 17 years, the banking sector has become family-centric. It has been used for the benefit of a certain group. We want to give a framework through which the banking sector can be brought back to the people. It will be possible to make it a business-friendly and self-reliant sector.”

He said, “We have seen the role of the government in the management of Bangladesh Bank. The way the governor has been appointed, it creates concern about the future of the economy. At the same time, the recent affairs of Islami Bank are also not comforting for the economy.”

Hasnat Abdullah also said, “Paying taxes is a commitment of citizens with the state. We will work to ensure that the health, education and other service activities that are carried out with people's tax money are truly people-friendly.”

At this time, the shadow budget of Tk 8 lakh 52 thousand 157 crore was presented by NCP. NCP's proposed budget size is Tk 8 lakh 52 thousand 157 crore, which is Tk 62 thousand 157 crore more than the current financial year. However, the budget deficit is planned to be limited to 3.09 percent of GDP. At the same time, the target has been set to reduce inflation from 9.2 percent to 8 percent and to 6 percent in the next financial year.”

Shadow budget committee chief and member of parliament was present at the shadow budget announcement ceremony. Atiq Mujahid and Deputy Chief Abdullah Al Faisal and NCP Joint Member Secretary Alauddin Mohammad.
