Major attack by Russian forces in Kiev, at least 10 dead

The Russian army launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, on Wednesday night. At least 10 people were killed and 56 injured. Among the injured are 2 children and some are in critical condition.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the head of the capital’s military administration, Taimur Tikachenko, confirmed this information in separate messages posted on the Telegram social network. Taimur said in his telegram, Russian forces fired UAV drones and ballistic missiles at at least 36 areas in and around Kiev on Wednesday.

Russia’s Defense Ministry also issued a statement acknowledging Wednesday night’s attack. It said long-range ballistic missiles and drones were used in Wednesday night’s military operation targeting military and power generation and supply facilities in and around Kiev.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was currently in Ireland on an official visit at the time of the attack. In a message posted on social media X at midnight on Wednesday, he said, he is returning to the country after shortening his visit.

Zelensky also advised the people of Ukraine to be alert and to go to safe shelter immediately in case of renewed attacks.

Ukrainian military installations were mainly targeted at Ukrainian air force airports. According to the Russian statement, the operation was carried out in response to the recent attack by the Ukrainian army on Russian civilian installations.
