Two students of BRAC University sentenced to prison for consuming ganja while visiting Jabi


Two students of BRAC University were sentenced to two days without labor and fined Rs.

The university administration arrested them from the swimming pool area of ​​the university on Friday (May 22) around 2 pm.

The convicts are Ali Karim, a student of Summer-22 session of BRAC University and Khandkar Mehrun Nescha Subah, a student of Spring-23 session.

According to the security branch of the university, the two students came to the campus as guests on the invitation of two students of the 51st cycle of marketing department of Jahangirnagar University. They were caught red-handed while consuming marijuana in public at the swimming pool area in the afternoon. They were later taken to the security wing and handed over to the police after preliminary interrogation. They later pleaded guilty when they were produced before a mobile court headed by an executive magistrate. After that, the court sentenced each of them to two days' imprisonment and a fine of Tk 500 under the Narcotics Control Act.

In this regard, University Proctor Professor AKM Rashedul Alam said, “Regular surveillance and operations are being conducted against drugs and any unwanted activities in the campus. The University administration is following the policy of 'zero tolerance' regarding drugs. No exemption will be given to anyone for such crimes.”
