At least seven people, including two children, have been killed in Ukraine by Russian missiles and drone attacks. This information was reported by the international media citing local officials.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia was preparing a major attack. He urged the countrymen to heed the warning of air strikes seriously.
Early on Thursday (July 30), the Ukrainian military said that Russia had launched simultaneous missile and drone attacks in different parts of the country.
Days before the attack, Zelensky met with President Donald Trump during his visit to the United States. There, he requested Ukraine to license the production of interceptor missiles for the Patriot missile defense system.
Six people, including two girls aged five and 12, were killed when a ballistic missile hit a house in a village near the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, local officials said. Eight others, including two children, were injured in the incident. It is feared that the number of casualties may increase.
One person was also killed in the capital, Kiev. The mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, said that three non-residential buildings caught fire in the overnight attack.
Explosions were also heard in the western city of Lviv. The mayor of the city Andri Sadovi said that some residential buildings were damaged.
Apart from this, several other cities of Ukraine were attacked. BBC Ukraine reports that Russian missiles have reached the western part of the country.
Neighboring Poland has deployed its military aircraft as a precautionary measure, the country’s armed forces said.
Meanwhile, there were reports of an overnight attack on a warehouse in the Russian city of Penza. Oleg Melnichenko, the regional governor, said that one person was injured in the attack on the warehouse of an organization called Wildberrys. The company is often called the ‘Amazon of Russia’ and several of its facilities have recently been the target of attacks in Ukraine.
