The country’s security forces have launched a massive anti-terror operation in Pakistan. At least 44 terrorists were killed in the last 24 hours in separate gunfights with the security forces in these operations conducted on the basis of intelligence. At the same time, three police officers including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) were killed in the attack by the militants.
Anadolu news agency reported this information on Thursday (July 30).
According to the report, separate incidents have occurred in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Baluchistan provinces. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said terrorists attacked a police check post in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late on Wednesday (July 29). Three police officers including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) were killed in this attack.
He said security forces killed eight terrorists in a counter operation and repulsed the attack. Police said 18 other policemen were injured in the clash.
Earlier, Pakistan Army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that 24 terrorists were killed in multiple operations in Khyber district, bordering Afghanistan. Besides, eight more terrorists were killed in a separate operation in Balochistan’s Nushki district.
According to the ISPR, a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives (IEDs) were recovered and destroyed in the operation. The operation is continuing in the area to find the rest of the terrorists.
Hundreds of Hijras protest in Pakistan
On the other hand, the police said that four more suspected terrorists were killed in the ongoing operation in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Search operations are also continuing in the area.
Swat, one of Pakistan’s most popular tourist destinations, was once a militant stronghold. However, after a major military operation in 2009, the government regained control of the valley.
The number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan has increased in recent years. Islamabad claims that the Afghanistan-based Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is involved in these attacks. However, Kabul denied this allegation.
