The process of announcing the Ninth Pay Commission for Government Officers-Employees is still going on. The report of the commission will be presented to the Cabinet soon after the completion of its work. After the approval of the Cabinet, the process of issuing the notification will begin.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury informed this information at the Secretariat on Wednesday (July 29).
In response to a question whether there will be any problem in getting a new loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if the new salary structure is implemented, the finance minister said that the new salary structure has nothing to do with the IMF loan. The pay structure is being worked out and it won’t be long before the notification is issued.
He also said that he does not want to comment repeatedly on the salary structure. The news is being published in different media about the matter, but he will give details at once.
A finance department source said the IMF has not given any direct guidance on the implementation of the new pay structure and has no decision-making authority in the matter. However, the organization has asked the government to give importance to the provision of funds required for salary hike and increasing revenue.
Earlier, on April 21, a 10-member committee headed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani was formed to recommend the implementation of the new salary structure for government employees. Sources in the finance department said that the committee has almost finalized its recommendations.
The committee includes Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Finance Secretary, Public Administration Secretary, Law Secretary, Defense Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Secretary, Health Care Secretary, Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Department and Comptroller General of Accounts as members.
