US President Donald Trump wants to meet Iran's supreme religious leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. He said this in an interview given to the New York Post on Wednesday.
Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen in public since the start of the US war in Iran. At the beginning of the war, Mojtaba's father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed. Mojtaba was later elected as the supreme leader of Iran. He was also seriously injured in the US attack.
Trump said in the interview that he and Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei “seem to be getting along pretty well.”
Asked about the ayatollah's condition, Trump said, “I'm not hearing that he's doing great. If you believe the stories, he's missed a lot of pieces.”
Asked who was making the decisions on Iran, Trump said, “They say he's authorizing. Because it's been going on for a long, long time. His father and then him, I guess it's a legacy. But we seem to be doing pretty well.”
Trump said he would like to meet Ayatollah Khamenei at some point.
