A new BSIC industrial city is being built on 200 acres of land in Pabna

Commerce, Industry and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that an initiative will be taken to build a new BSIC industrial city on another 200 acres of land in Pabna in order to create employment.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the Lychee Festival and Agricultural Trade Fair organized by the Bangladesh Farmers' Association at the Mirkamari Adarsh ​​High School grounds of Ishwardi Upazila in Pabna on Friday (June 5) afternoon.

Mentioning the importance of industrialization, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir announced, “BCK (Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation) of Pabna has no vacant space at its current location. Therefore, with the aim of creating employment, an initiative will be taken to build a new BCK industrial city on another 200 acres of land in Pabna. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman, the government is working tirelessly to create huge employment opportunities as soon as possible.”

Emphasizing effective solutions and research in litchi conservation, the Minister said, “Pabna has a spiritual relationship with the people of this region of agriculture which is unique. For this reason, the feasibility of litchi conservation will be verified and cold storage will be set up if necessary. But for the necessary research to prevent rotting of litchi and increase yield like onion storage, innovators and farmers should come forward to find cost-effective and effective home grown solutions or domestic solutions in litchi.”

Highlighting the country's food production, the minister said that currently Bangladesh produces about 4 crore tonnes of rice annually and the country is now self-sufficient in onion production. Besides, about 1 crore 15 lakh tonnes of potatoes are produced annually, but a part of it is wasted due to lack of proper storage.
