The black night of March 25 taught us that no matter how brutal the repression, a nation’s desire for freedom can never be suppressed. This was said by National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson and former advisor to the interim government Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.
He said this in a post on social media Facebook on Tuesday (March 24) night.
Asif Mahmud said, March 25, 1971. A terrible, dark night in the history of Bangladesh. On this night, the Pakistani military launched a planned massacre of unarmed Bengalis called ‘Operation Searchlight’. Sleeping people, innocent students, teachers, ordinary families — no one was spared from the brutality. Fire was burning in the sky of Dhaka, and countless lives were falling to the ground.
He said, but this darkness of history could not finish us. Rather, it was this black night that woke up the people of Bangladesh. We were not afraid, we did not bow down. Rather, after that night, the people of this country firmly decided to fight against injustice and take away freedom.
The spokesperson of NCP said, March 25 is not only a day of mourning, it is a day of our awakening. The black night of March 25 taught us that no matter how brutal the repression, a nation’s desire for freedom can never be suppressed. We have seen that lesson repeatedly in our history. We have seen that fact again in recent times with 17 years of fascist rule, the brutal massacre of July and the popular uprising against it.
He said, even today, March 25 reminds us that no matter how great the power of injustice is, people’s desire for freedom is greater than that. With the spirit of martyrs’ self-sacrifice, we will move forward on the path of building a just, humane and democratic Bangladesh.
On this day of March 25, the spokesperson of NCP paid deep respect to the martyrs, oppressed families and all the martyrs of the liberation war.
