The funeral of late Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was held. Khamenei’s three sons took part in his father’s final farewell in the grounds of the Grand Mosque in Tehran.
According to Al Jazeera’s report, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral has ended at the Grand Mosalla compound in Tehran. The bodies of the late Supreme Leader and his family members are kept there for public homage.
On Monday, a grand final procession of national dignity will be held on the streets of Tehran. Later, his body will be taken to various cities in Iran as well as to neighboring Iraq as part of mourning arrangements.
Then on July 7, his body will be taken to the holy city of Kom. On July 8, the body will be taken to the Iraqi cities of Karbala and Najaf. Finally, on July 9, Khamenei’s body will be taken to Mashhad, Iran’s birthplace. He will be buried there next to the shrine of Imam Imam Reza (a.s.).
Thousands of people who took part in the mourning organized anti-American and anti-Israel slogans. At the same time, they also demanded revenge for the killing of Khamenei and the country’s top officials in the US-Israeli attack.
Political analysts believe that Iran is presenting this event not only as a religious mourning ceremony, but also as an example of national unity, resistance and state solidarity.
Khamenei’s three sons took part in the funeral next to his father’s coffin. However, the new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, did not publicly attend the event. According to various reports, she is still not coming out in public for security reasons after her father was injured in the attack.
