Pro-Palestinian supporters protested in Washington ahead of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Participants in Monday’s protest carried Palestinian flags and chanted slogans criticizing US support for Israel.
The placards held by the protesters read: ‘Stop the US-Israel war machine’, ‘Expose Israel’s influence in Washington’ and ‘Palestinian human rights matter too’.
Protests continued outside the White House after Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Tuesday (July 28) for a meeting with Trump. The meeting is expected to discuss important issues including the Gaza situation, regional security and US-Israel relations.
This will be Trump’s eighth meeting with Netanyahu since taking office for a second term.
After the meeting with Trump, Netanyahu is also scheduled to attend the memorial service of the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham has long been known as one of Israel’s staunchest supporters.
Various human rights organizations and pro-Palestinian groups have been criticizing Washington for a long time for the continued support of the United States in the military operations of the occupying Israel in the Gaza Strip. This support, they allege, has deepened the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
According to reports, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel’s military operation in Gaza on October 7, 2023. Most of the victims were women and children.
