The rebels occupied the Trinamool headquarters

The All India Trinamool Congress has taken over the main party office in Kolkata’s metropolitan area amid demands and counter-claims by Mamata Banerjee and the rebel camp over who will be in control.

The group, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, took over the headquarters on Friday evening, calling itself the ‘Real Trinamool Congress’. Top leaders and MLAs like Akhtaruzzaman, Firhad Hakim, Javed Khan, Golam Rabbani, Prasun Bandyopadhyay and Sandeepan Saha were with Ritabrat.

Former minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, known as a follower of Mamata Banerjee, was staying at the party office at that time. He left the building after Ritavrata entered.

However, shortly after Chandrima left, ‘Mamatapanti’ Trinamool leader and MLA Kunal Ghosh and a few others appeared in front of the building. Soon after reaching Kunalera, the police went to the spot. Central forces were also deployed to avoid untoward situations. Kunal is seen talking to the police about the ‘occupation’ of the office.
