The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) carried out airstrikes on several military installations of the country’s defense forces late Tuesday night local time in Iran. The company gave this information in a statement released early Wednesday morning.
CENTCOM claimed that the latest operation caused extensive damage to several Iranian military operations centers, an aircraft hangar and a drone depot. However, no information has been released about the exact location of these establishments.
The statement also said that this is the 11th consecutive day of air strikes in Iran. In previous attacks, several command centers of Iran’s defense forces, naval installations, missile and drone launch sites and various installations related to the defense system were attacked, CENTCOM claimed.
The US Central Command released the video of the operation on social media.
In the context, it should be noted that the conflict between the United States and Iran started on February 28 due to the tension surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. After 40 days of fighting, both sides agreed to a ceasefire on April 7.
Then, on June 17, US President Donald Trump and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) in Islamabad, mediated by Pakistan. One of the conditions of the 14-point agreement was that Iran would stop attacking commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. In return, the US was supposed to ease the embargo on Iran’s oil exports and the embargo on the country’s ports.
However, on July 5, two oil tankers of the United Arab Emirates were attacked by drones in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States alleges that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was involved in the attack. In view of this, CENTCOM started a series of air raids targeting various military installations of Iran from July 7.
Meanwhile, in the midst of the ongoing tension, President Trump ordered the re-imposition of the blockade on Iran’s ports on July 13.
The American media Associated Press (AP) quoted international political and security analysts as saying that the Strait of Hormuz is at the center of this new round of conflict between the United States and Iran. According to analysts, Washington wants to strengthen its influence in this strategic waterway.
