Energy supply can be retained till March if affordable: Power Minister

Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku believes that the energy supply can be maintained until March if it is affordable. He said the supply of fuel has slowed down. If there is no fuel, where will the electricity come from? It is difficult to generate electricity in energy crisis. Load shedding will not be unbearable. There may be some gas shortage. Everyone has to be frugal in solving the crisis.

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said this in an emergency press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday. In response to a question, he said, it is bigger than the Russia-Ukraine war. It is difficult to overcome a major crisis unless everyone cooperates. What is available should be used sparingly. Can be continued if everyone is affordable. The Power Minister assured everyone that there will be no load shedding from Iftar to Taraweeh and during Sahri.

Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said that the sale of diesel has suddenly increased in the country. He said some diesel could be smuggled due to high prices across the border. The matter is being monitored seriously and necessary action is being taken. Surveillance has been increased in border areas. District Commissioners (DCs) of bordering districts and concerned law enforcement agencies have been alerted. If necessary, rationing measures will be taken to sell diesel in border areas. Steps have already been taken to control sales in some areas.

The Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said that the promotion of energy saving is being started by soccer. He said that lighting should not be done in shopping malls during this crisis. Not only Bangladesh but the whole world is in trouble with war. Therefore, a notification will be issued by the ministry with detailed instructions on fuel usage.
