NBR warns taxpayers of cheating by fear of audit

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has warned that a class of fraudsters are illegally demanding money from tax payers and trying to extort money by promising exemption from audit or fearing legal complications with information read in tax document audits.

NBR informed this information in a notification on Sunday (July 5).

It is said that recently a group of fraudsters have been contacting taxpayers from different mobile numbers claiming that their tax documents have been audited. They are illegally demanding money from taxpayers by promising exemption from audit or threatening legal complications and trying to extort money.

NBR urges taxpayers to pay particular attention to a few points to beware of such frauds.

No communication without written notice: No officer or employee of National Board of Revenue (NBR) shall communicate through personal mobile number or unauthorized means for tax document audit matters. When a tax document is selected for audit, the relevant taxpayer is notified by law only through formal written notice.
