The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party electoral alliance has submitted the final list of nominees to the reserved women’s seats in the National Parliament. While there are some surprises in this list, there are also many heavyweight leaders missing.
Jamaat Amir is in this row of heavyweights. Dr. Shafikur Rahman’s wife. Name of Amena Begum. From 2001 to 2006, she represented Jamaat in the women’s seat of the National Parliament. But this time his name did not appear in this list.
Besides, several heavyweight leaders of NCP, a member of Jamaat’s electoral alliance, have been left out of this list. Jatiya Nagrik Party’s senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin’s name was in discussion for the reserved seat, but she was ultimately not nominated. Among the top leaders of NCP, Dilshana Parul, Nusrat Tabassum also did not find place in this list.
Earlier yesterday, the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party electoral unity announced the final list of nominees for the reserved women’s seats in the National Assembly. Among the 13 candidates, eight from Jamaat-e-Islami and two from NCP took the place. Apart from this, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Jagpa and Juli Shaheed family got one nomination each.
The list of 13 people includes- Jamaat Women’s Division Secretary and Central Working Council Member Noorunnisa Siddiqa, Jamaat Central Working Council Member Marzia Begum, Former President of the Students Association and Central Working Council Member Sabikunnahar Munni, Mahila Jamaat Media and Publicity Department Secretary Nazmun Nahar Neelu, Sylhet Mahanagar Mahila Jamaat Secretary Mahfuza Hannan, Bogra Region Women Jamaat Director Sajeda Samad, Mahila Jamaat Chittagong North District Secretary Shamchunnahar Begum, Women’s Rights Movement Central Member Marzia Mumtaz, NCP Women’s Organization ‘National Women’s Force’ Convener Monira Sharmin and Member Secretary Mahmuda Alam Mitu, Jagpa Chairman Tasmia Pradhan, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis Nari Majlis Member Mahbooba Hakim and Juli Shaheed Shishu Jabir.
