Earthquake-stricken Venezuela, the number of dead is increasing


Twin earthquakes continue to wreak havoc in Venezuela. The death toll in the country has risen to 4,561, said National Assembly President George Rodriguez. On Tuesday (July 14), Turkey’s official media Anadolu Agency reported this information.


Rodriguez said, 16 thousand 740 people were injured in the earthquake. 1 lakh 28 thousand 324 families have already been given assistance to the victims. Besides, 107 temporary shelter camps have been created for 20 thousand 231 people, where 17 thousand 907 people have taken shelter.


He also said that 856 buildings have been damaged by the earthquake, of which 190 have completely collapsed.


According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), two strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela on June 24.

At that time, the United States Geological Survey and Research Organization USGS said in a statement that the death toll could exceed 10,000. The epicenter was the northern coast of Venezuela. The country has several oil refineries in the region.


According to the information of the US media CNN, many buildings collapsed in various cities and villages, including the capital Caracas, as a result of the earthquake. According to the USGS statement, the majority of buildings and homes in Venezuela are not constructed following earthquake-resistant technologies. As a result, the death toll may be 10,000 or more.
