Various countries are concerned about the security of the growing military tension in the Middle East. South Korea has advised its citizens to leave the region quickly, fearing that the situation between the United States and Iran will become more heated.
Seoul issued this warning after a meeting with officials of 17 diplomatic missions including Iran and Israel on Sunday (July 19).
The meeting discussed the security situation of South Korean citizens and the country’s ships in the Middle East.
South Korea’s Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina said most countries in the Middle East are currently under a Level-3 travel warning. Therefore, short-term travelers are advised to leave the area without urgent need.
He also said that due to the recent tensions surrounding Yemen’s Houthi group and Saudi Arabia, additional precautions are being taken in the security of South Korean ships operating in the Red Sea.
India, on the other hand, has also advised its citizens to suspend travel to Iran until the security situation improves.
In a new warning, the Indian Embassy in Iran said, ‘Those who are currently in Iran, should consider leaving the country temporarily using flights if possible.’
On the other hand, the Indian Embassy has urged Indian citizens in Jordan to be cautious and follow the instructions of the local authorities.
It should be noted that last month, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding mediated by Pakistan to end the conflict and establish long-term peace. However, tensions between the two countries rose again last week over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides retaliating.
