US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has expressed interest in resuming peace talks with the US and that is why he has ordered the suspension of US military operations there. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said Iran had politely asked for a halt to the operation and a meeting, and that if there was no deal, they would return to their previous positions.
It should be noted that Iran’s IRGC carried out a drone attack on two Emirate tankers in the Strait of Hormuz in early July, violating the terms of the agreement. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) then launched sustained airstrikes against Iranian military and civilian installations, and the IRGC responded by launching drone and missile attacks on US bases in the Middle East. After 13 consecutive nights of fighting, CENTCOM halted the operation on July 25, which is still ongoing, and in return, Iran also suspended the attack.
An Iranian government official told Reuters that they have already told the United States that if the United States stops the attack, Iran will also postpone the counter-operation. Immediately after the publication of this report, Trump announced the reason for the suspension of the operation. However, a few days ago, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran said that they have no plans for a new dialogue with the United States.
