After 29 days, the dog was rescued alive from the rubble of the earthquake

29 days after the devastating earthquake in Venezuela, a pet dog named ‘Bailey’ was rescued alive from under the rubble. Rescuers and vets hailed her survival as a ‘miracle’ after being trapped under concrete rubble for nearly a month.

According to NDTV report, rescuers identified Bailey’s position under the rubble during the rescue operation last week. He was later found covered in dust, emaciated and dehydrated. Video from the scene shows him being given water to drink immediately after being rescued and medical teams administering emergency treatment and saline.

Rescuers said Bailey was found lying next to the body of his owner’s deceased grandmother, shot to death. The animal survived for 29 long days in extreme conditions without food and water.

Bailey’s condition is currently stable, according to veterinarians. He has some bruises on his eyes, but is recovering fast with the necessary treatment.

11-year-old Victoria lost her mother and grandmother in the disaster. Despite this irreparable loss to the family, the return of beloved pet Bailey is a source of some relief for relatives.

“It’s truly a miracle. Everything that happened to him, it’s a miracle. He has some wounds to his eye, but he will recover quickly,” said vet Myrna.

Note that on June 24, two strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 hit northern Venezuela. It killed nearly 5,000 people, collapsed hundreds of buildings, and caused direct physical damage of $19.6 billion, according to preliminary estimates by the World Bank.
