Attack on BNP leader for protesting soil cutting, case filed in police station


A case has been filed with the police regarding the attack on BNP leader Abdur Rahim (43) due to a dispute over land cutting in Noakhali’s Companyganj.

Abdur Rahim, the victim of the attack, is the former vice-president of the Muchapur Union Chhatra Dal and the leader of the same union BNP and a possible chairman candidate.

According to the victim and case sources, Abdul Haque Shahjahan and his brothers, the former president of Union BNP, grabbed the land of a man named Farooq of Muchapur Union and sold the land. When they protested against this incident, they assaulted BNP leader Alauddin Ziku. On Friday evening after getting the news, I went to see Jiku at his house and protested against the cutting of land encroaching on other people’s land. Later, on the way back from his home, in front of the Kalu Mollar mosque, former joint convener of BNP upazila Manchurul Haque Baba and his elder brother Hafez Abdul Haque Shahjahan, former president of Muchapur Union BNP, along with Shahzada, Kawchar, Rumon. Led by Alamgir and Arafat, I was attacked with intent to kill.

He said, on the same day around 8:30 pm, on the way to take me to the hospital while I was injured, the followers of Babur-Shah Jahan attacked my convoy again in the local Madina market. Then my aunt molested the school teacher Jannatul Ferdaus and stole her gold ornaments. When my brothers Abdul Awal (37) and Abdur Rahman (21) came forward to save my aunt, they were hacked and severely beaten.

Rejecting the allegations, Manchurul Haque Babar, BNP’s joint convener of Companyganj Upazila BNP and his elder brother, Abdul Haque Shahjahan, former president of Muchapur Union BNP, said that they are not involved in this attack. You come to the field and see.

Companyganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nurul Hakim said that two parties have filed a counter-case in this matter. Legal action will be taken after looking into the matter.
